God Wannabe

Lesser traveling this year so that i could practice more or.. i shud get a smaller scale guitar for better mobilization. Bass has always been my department but having an electric bass is an ass. Could not practice on the go semacam itu guitar acoustic. Planning to sent over the EMU to Stalin since he has so many new song.

I need money for new gears.. and God of Money has not been so kind lately.. then again, im quite okay compare to those who in great dilemma.. For example, an uncle of mine from rumah panjai has to migrate to the city for a job. Commodities such as rubber and pepper has decrease its value. He could not even pay for his car. I wish i could assist him, 2 kids and my grandparents..

I guess Music helps me during this odd moment. I found its interesting to play chord D over and over again.. i wonder why..

2009 will see the studio completed. Its a must. If caca can promise me not to abuse it but he said it up front, admitted that he could not restraint himself from using it. sigh.. dont mind if they wanted to practice but responsibility and maintenance is a must!

For me, i wanted to have fun and perform on stage. Plus, we had a demo between our cheek butt and wanted to promote it. Did not plan to win but to explore possibility / potential with out music. Things turn out different than we expect when we manage to go 2nd stage and wowed audiences and judges.. I was worried. If we win, could the band finance itself to Singapore. Most are still studying and looking for job. A passport would cost RM300. Can bandmember afford it? And if we win, who should go?  We have 2 members wanted to be in..

Excited and anxious, so i told Caca and Ray, if you wanted be successful in this music industry, you have to really work your ass off. After all, you two stop studying in order to give in to your musical career, if there is any?  Is okay for me and Saifudin. We are both earning. He replied me furiously, “you are taking us for granted by saying those word! As if you can dump us anytime without feeling guilty. After all, why do you give a shit. You had your life in front of you and, here we (caca & ray) are, gambling our future for the music we love.”  i was stunned and stumped. I wonder whether he realized what he had just said.. the risk that both of them willing to partake in this shambles music industry, in a niche music market ( bulldozing speed punk metal in a market full of jiwang karat manusia) and in a country where biased policies crush your dream right in front of your eyes.. it was super selfish for me as i have a quarter of this life figured out (done with my study, earning and paying tax). i was damm selfish for taking music/scene for a ride, for having it as a hobby and growing a big cloud of doubt about what all the “musician wannabees” want..

There were 2 ways i could think of to salvage this delusional journey :

1. Stop immediately. They were my brother, cousin and very close fren. I had to take responsibility and courage to tell them straight to their face.. that career in music is not gonna work out despite how bersemangat we are. i dint really know it back then because i had this blurry vision on how the country is run. I was an ignorant and never vote or understand my “humane” right. Music for living is possible in malaysia but ..sigh. i explain later.. no matter how much we cried “support our local scene”, those tag line serupa dengan “support our hak bumiputera”. A chant that is so fucking innocent for naive bystander but a powerful brainwashing scheme by the select few who deliberately twisted it and made it into their propaganda and at the end, get a cut of the cake, out of other’s naiviety/stupidty.. its not gonna work out here, with what has been “cancerized” out thought and mindset over the past 40 years(3rd world mentality).  Support our local scene to the extreme mean isolating oneself from others and embrace the socialist approach… it is communism.. KOMUNIS! and in komunis, ditactorship overrule. I should have stop all of us but….. the possibilities/potential and the wonder of youth gave all out…sigh…

2. And if we intended to go ALL OUT and living our youth…. Money, time, sweat, blood gonna roll down our throat. i was confident. We were passionate and out of our mind! We had asset and people to pull out the job. And most importantly, we had “THE PASSION”. . (kah kah kah kah.. buah passion bijik pelir). hmmmm ….. i guess you know the rest of the stories kan?  Studio was built, guitars were bought, plan were laid out, gig attended without fail, and the list go on and on. Then again, after all we have done, passion alone cannot replace the broken cymbals, the broken hearted, job losses, angry girlfriends and what more to say, putting “mee maggie curry” on the table.. i had to figure, where did it go wrong.. Was it wrong to make a living from your music… i remembered someone told me that he wanted to be a song writer.. writing song for a living.. earning royalty.. what happen to that person? did he live his dream? or was he saying it out of spontaneity like every youth out there?.. Dream can come true.. hold on to your dream.. don’t ever let go of your passion..

I have grown old and retarded. I have lost that enthusiasm.. i might open a jamming studio or a recording gig , earning from the today’s excessive “youth power / energy” .. exploiting them of every drop of bloods.. if you watch the movie “tropic thunder”, check out MR. Financier at the end of the movie.. i dunno.. i just want to do my own thing now.. for those who don’t understand, u will one day..

The organizer, emcee, runner, water-boy, you name it! Banditogether was a success. i dint follow the next round because i had to flew to KL. There were 20 bands only. Remind me of 1st BandKuest, a sequel to Lord of the Band, which had a luke-warm response. Well, the gig sumhow manage to introduce new comer, younger, femme fatale, and more refine musician. It was all kool and free.. yay!

On other note, visited Ah How/Ah Jay new jamm studio in Travillion. Ah Jay sumhow persuaded me to continue the “FIGHT” and never give up. I never give up on music. I gave up on the scene and its community. Its all conspiracy and “popaganda” intertwine with social imbalance between a CAPITALIST and a hardcore die hard local scene… yeah… im babbling again..

That’s why we all needed to clear our head, out mind and especially our heart. Not another rat race to be won. Not another hate the rich for robbing material gain. Not another Dayak-kill-dayak so that i can be a CEO in GLC. Not another false security. but a meaningful life and acceptance of fate. ( Teenage angst mellow when you grow older) Be good in what you want to be .. its rewarding/satisfying, more than money can bring.

I ran away.. far away, to be with the tree/river/nature who have lived more than any mortal. No complaint.. no race.. no genre.. but acceptance..

Indeed, the scene needs fresh soul.. a new redefine meaning.. can we find it here in Sarawak?

God Wannabe

I have been slow.. really slow these past few months due to my most important commitment.. I am finally committed, “legally” to a living flesh. I used to love and pamper myself above anything else. Yes, the star of the show is always me. Spotlight on me. Salary all by myself.. The wonder of hidup membujang. Empty but “controllable”. Kontrol hensem la tek.. hahahha..

1. Bought my very first Craftman Electric Guitar and a Peavey amp using Mara Education Loan. Had to extend another semester.. 2 paper only. So the bulk of money goes to me..yes, i love myself so much.. hahaha..

2. Bought a bass specifically to pamper myself. I was working as a lecturer in SATT kolej. A kolig of mine wanted to let go his “imitation-samick” bass for rm300. That’s el cheapo for a bass. I took it, paid in installment of rm50 for 6 months. Salary back then was $800 per month, got bills and loans to pay, but i wanted to own a full studio. Dream about it since primary 6.

3. Financial constraint gone when i got into a new job. Still single , feeling pretty much suicidal and eccentric, i spend a lot on my hobbies. Sport car and music. That’s where a drum set, PA system, A new PC complete with a super duper RM2k sound card, more amps ate more than half of my monthly income. Not to mention that both Colin, Hairul and Stalin went all out too as they gone bonker with RG LP frenzy.. ( I kinda miss Hairul.. he was innocent tho but too emotional.. )

Those were the days when commitment and priorities were rather low..almost none to existence. As predicted and written or carved on stone, adulthood is a painful process that each one of us have to go thorough. Some remain rockstar for life.. and some choose to populate the earth and continue human existence. i choose the latter. Who can’t resist “femme fatale” (a woman who is considered to be dangerously seductive) unless you own Saiful Bukhari’s anus.

And so, i postpone another thrill and adventure… another cymbals and drum sticks.. another set of Fender/Ibanez guitar string . another Bass.. another visit to Lee Music center.. another gig … yes, another major gig which is coming our way. Its major because Silas of TruEvent is masterminding it this August. Yup, i receive a phone call from him a couple days ago.. He invited RadioGravity to perform or to join A Big Major Fun GIG at Boulevard.. but i kinda declined for now.. Now, its time to sit back and enjoy the show…. plus, i have a Green-Studio to build.

Speaking of the devil, i met Ah How of Hip Hop and Rock/Dream Machine as well. He is planning for something for this upcoming Kuching Festival. Always on the move eh..

Lets keep our finger cross and hope it will happen. For 7.7% inflation and 50% fuel hike.. plus sodomy conspiracy does not allow our Local Gig Organizer to sit back and let the their shadow fade. When the tough gets going, the going get tough(  just like what Saiful said when his anus got pocked ..ewww.. )
